These allowances come from what our travellers report back, not from a brochure. The package price is firm; everything below it is an estimate, and the two that surprise people most are teahouse extras and tipping. Airfares are indicative only — we quote the real fare once your dates are fixed.
The two that surprise people
Teahouse extras and tipping. Above Namche a hot shower is roughly $4, charging a phone $3, and wifi $3 to $5 a day, which compounds quickly across a fortnight. Tipping is customary rather than optional, and the group splits one pot between the guide and the porters at the end of the trek.
Where you should not economise
Insurance. A standard travel policy will not cover a helicopter evacuation from 5,000 metres, and that flight costs several thousand dollars paid in advance before the aircraft lifts. Read the insurance answer before you buy a policy on price.
