What this means in practice
Mountain packages from HighPass build in acclimatisation. Any itinerary crossing 3,000 metres includes at least one rest night before the high day, oxygen in every vehicle above Leh, and a route that gains altitude gradually rather than driving straight to the highest point on day two.
The company is named after a mountain pass, so we take this category personally. Altitude sickness ruins more Himalayan holidays than weather does, and almost every case we see comes from an itinerary that gained height too fast to save a night's lodging cost.
Our high-altitude routes follow the standard acclimatisation rule: above 3,000 metres you sleep no more than about 500 metres higher than the night before. On the Everest Base Camp trail that means acclimatisation days at Namche (3,440 m) and Dingboche (4,410 m), not one rushed rest afternoon. Guides carry a pulse oximeter, and on vehicle-based high-altitude trips we carry supplemental oxygen.
For snow, timing matters more than destination. The Himalayan trekking seasons are mid-September to late November and March to mid-May; December to February is clear and quiet but genuinely cold above 4,000 metres, where teahouse rooms are unheated. We will tell you what your dates actually buy.
