The short Khumbu walk that tops out at 3,880 m
In short
This is the honest short option in the Everest region, and we would rather describe it accurately than dress it up. You do not reach base camp. You do not go above 3,880m. What you get is the part of the Khumbu that most trekkers agree is the prettiest anyway: the Dudh Koshi gorge, the suspension bridges, the pine forest climb to Namche, and the ridge above it where Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam stand in one line. Four walking days, nothing longer than six hours, and one acclimatisation day. It suits people who cannot take two weeks off, families with teenagers, and anyone who has read enough about 5,000m to know they do not want it. The Lukla flight applies here exactly as it does on the longer trek, including the Ramechhap drive in peak season.
Permits arranged for you
Everest View Hotel ridge, 3,880 m is the high point of this route. Sagarmatha National Park entry permit, NPR 3,000 (about USD 22), Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality entry fee, NPR 2,000 (about USD 15). We file these on your behalf; the cost is inside your package price unless the exclusions say otherwise.

Small group, maximum 12 — good for families with children over 10. Seat counts are live at the last catalogue update; we confirm availability in writing before taking any payment.
Yes, and we say so without hedging. The Everest View ridge at 3,880 m gives you Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam in a single frame — a view many base camp trekkers rate higher than base camp itself, which is a boulder field with no summit visible. What you skip is the high, cold, thin-air half of the Khumbu.
Children from about ten upward manage it well. No day exceeds six hours, the maximum sleeping altitude is 3,440 m, and there is a full rest day at Namche. Bring proper boots rather than trainers, and expect the Namche climb to be the one day anyone complains. We can add a second porter for family groups.
Much lower than on the base camp route, but not zero. Mild headache and poor sleep on the first Namche night are common and usually clear by the rest day. Because you sleep at 3,440 m and only visit 3,880 m, the profile follows the climb-high sleep-low rule. Descent is always available and quick from here.
In October, November, March and April, yes — the same 1am start and four-hour drive as any Khumbu trek, because the rule is about Kathmandu airport slots, not about your itinerary. If you book a February, May or September departure you fly straight from Kathmandu, which many people find worth the slightly less reliable weather.
They warned us about the Ramechhap drive
Every other operator I contacted glossed over the Lukla flight situation. HighPass put the 2am drive to Manthali in writing at the quotation stage, so it was an inconvenience instead of a shock. Small thing, but it set the tone.
