The short version
Pokhara lies 200 km west of Kathmandu at 822 m, in a valley so low relative to the peaks that Annapurna I at 8,091 m stands 7,000 m above the lakeshore about 45 km away — one of the steepest horizontal-to-vertical relationships anywhere on earth. Phewa Lake covers roughly 4.4 sq km, with the island Tal Barahi temple in the middle and rows of hire boats along Lakeside. Sarangkot, a ridge at 1,592 m reached in 40 minutes by road, is the sunrise viewpoint and the launch site for tandem paragliding flights that land near the lake after 20 to 30 minutes. The World Peace Pagoda sits opposite at about 1,100 m, an hour's walk up from the far shore. Davis Falls and the Gupteshwor cave sit beside each other on the southern edge. Pokhara International Airport (PKR) opened in 2023 and takes 25-minute flights from Kathmandu; the road takes six to seven hours.

Three options. Flights take 25 minutes from Kathmandu (KTM) to Pokhara (PKR) and run several times daily. Tourist coaches on the Prithvi Highway take six to seven hours and cost a fraction of the fare. A private car takes about the same time and lets you stop at Manakamana or the Trishuli rafting put-ins.
Yes, on a clear morning. Machhapuchhre at 6,993 m and the Annapurna wall are visible straight from Lakeside, most reliably between October and April before mid-morning haze builds. From June to September cloud usually blocks the view entirely for days at a time. Sarangkot lifts you above the worst of the haze.
A standard 20 to 30 minute tandem flight from Sarangkot runs about USD 75 to 100 including transfers, with photos and video usually charged separately at USD 20 to 25. Longer cross-country flights cost more. Operators fly from September to June; monsoon thermals and cloudbase make July and August unreliable.
Yes. Two to three nights fill easily with the lake, Sarangkot at sunrise, the Peace Pagoda walk, the mountain museum and a paraglide, and it is the most relaxed city in Nepal to spend an evening in. It also works as the base for day trips to Begnas Lake and Dhampus.
